The Devonport Rugby Club hosted the annual Broughton Cup prior to Easter.

The tournament was established to commemorate Ray ‘Wonga’ Broughton, a club stalwart who tragically passsed away in 2003 playing rugby for the club on the west coast of the state.

Despite the persistent rain, all clubs were in good spirits and the matches were highly competitive.

Harlequins and Glenorchy traveled up from Hobart and AMC and Burnie rounded out the draw.

In the Women’s 7s Division, the Devonport and North West Panthers teams welcomed players from Harlequins and Taroona to join their teams, to prepare all new players for the upcoming Northern and Southern Women’s 7s seasons.

The hosts took out the Men’s 10s after a spirited final against AMC.

The Broughton Cup is a much respected pre-season tournament, and a way for clubs to prepare their sides for the regular season.
