A Penguins v Emus double header headlines Round 3's southern fixtures while University are set for a fiery Bulls welcome in Devonport.

It's the Battle of the Birds at Rugby Park this weekend when Taroona host Burnie in two table-topping clashes.

The in-form Penguins have leapt atop the Premiership and Championship ladders but risk losing their perch when the Emus come to town.

In the Premiership, Taroona are coming off consecutive victories against Launceston and Glenorchy while Burnie are 2-0 following wins over Hobart Harlequins and Hobart Lions.

They'll kick off at 3pm after the 1pm Championship fixture at Cornelian Bay.

Meanwhile, University and Harlequins will cross the Derwent for the first time in 2023 with a respective trips to Devonport and Launceston before Hobart Lions head up the Brooker to face Glenorchy in this weekend's livestreamed match of the round.

There'll be added spice to the Devonport-University clash with the students coming away winners from their last visit to Don Rec while their hosts will be smarting from a record 98-12 loss to Launceston in Round 2 - expect a fiery Bulls welcome!

Eastern Suburbs are also chasing a maiden win in this year's Championship - they'll tackle the Tigers at Royal Park before the Launceston-Harlequins Premiership clash kicks off.

Finally, Burnie remain unbeaten in the women's sevens heading into this weekend's bye with Harlequeens and University hot on their heels.

Harlequeens have been the surprise package across the opening two rounds, picking up four wins from six games to leapfrog reigning premiers University into the top two behind Burnie.
