Three Tasmanians have been identified among the nation’s best emerging rugby talents and will take part in this weekend’s inaugural Super W Youth Camp.

Mia Mason, Bernadette Nordstrom and Talia Smith were named in Rugby Australia’s 40-player squad for a three-day intensive at Gold Coast’s Bond University lead by Rugby Australia's new Women’s High Performance Manager Jaime Fernandez.

Try-scoring machine Mason was among Eastern Suburbs’ best through the 2023 Women's Sevens Series, scoring 12 times, while Smith (Lions) and Nordstrom (Taroona) have impressed throughout the season.

In a statement, Fernandez said he was pleased to see all states and territories represented in selection, including Tasmania.

"The Super W Youth Camp is the first camp of its kind and is an excellent opportunity to provide our up-and-coming U18 female players with exposure to a high-performance training environment,” said Fernandez.

"The camp is aimed at developing the players’ abilities and improving their understanding of the requirements needed to consistently perform at their optimum level.

"Thank you to each of the state programs who have recommended these young women and to the staff who have worked to make this camp happen.”
