The Tasmanian Rugby Union (TRU) is pleased to announce that it has engaged Mike McLaughlin of McLaughlin Sports Consulting to undertake a comprehensive review of all TRU competitions, clubs and associated structures across the state.
This wide-ranging review will focus on key areas vital to the future of Rugby in Tasmania, including:
- Competition structures and formats
- Player recruitment and retention strategies
- Junior and senior development pathways
- Club development and sustainability
- Governance alignment and community engagement
TRU President Isaac Anderson said the review is a proactive step to ensure Rugby in Tasmania is well-positioned for long-term growth, performance and participation.
“We recognise the need to take a strategic, evidence-based approach to how our competitions and clubs operate, grow and evolve. Mike brings deep expertise and an independent lens that will help guide our decision-making into the future” Mr Anderson said.
Mike McLaughlin, an experienced sports consultant with an extensive background in community and professional sports strategy, will work closely with TRU stakeholders including clubs, players, administrators, volunteers and other partners to ensure a collaborative and inclusive process.
The final report and recommendations will be presented to the TRU Board in December 2025, forming the basis of a strategic roadmap for the next phase of Rugby’s development across the state.
The TRU is committed to engaging openly throughout the review process and encourages all members of the Rugby community to participate in consultations and contribute ideas that will help shape the future of the game.
