Launceston 1 and Hobart Lions are in pole position to top their respective divisions after Round 12 of the TRU Men's competition.

Fans at Royal Park were treated to a nine-try masterclass from the Tigers, who smashed Glenorchy 55-5 to extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games.

Nete Francis, Kyle Lombard and Leone Vonoyauyau all bagged doubles against the Stags, who slipped to fourth on the Premiership table after successive losses.

Glenorchy remain four points clear of Hobart Harlequins following Quins' 39-26 loss to Devonport with Jamie Tanti's hat-trick locking the Bulls into third on the Premiership table.

However, Josh Dawai's 79th minute try to snag a losing bonus point for Quins could prove crucial to catching the Stags with just two rounds remaining.

In Division 2, University veteran Josh May proved the difference as the students claimed their biggest scalp of the year, edging Launceston 2 by the barest of margins.

The Tigers outscored Uni five tries to three but May made the visitors pay for their ill-discipline, slotting five penalties in a 17-point haul to spark a Sandy Bay boilover.

Meanwhile Hobart Lions are all but assured hosting rights for a Championship semi final after leapfrogging Burnie into pole position with a 67-12 win over Eastern Suburbs.

Outside centre Zac Summerfield was chief destroyer for the Lions, scoring four tries at North Warrane with flyhalf Charles Boman (one try, six conversions) also impressing against the winless Roosters.
