Hobart Harlequins veteran Jeff Altmann has paid tribute to his club’s culture after bringing up 300 games during last week’s Round 13 clash.

Despite going down to Glenorchy 27-12, Altmann was pleased with their second-half fightback and humbled by the subsequent celebrations of his milestone game at Eady Street.

“That first half blew a gale and really mucked us around but our second half was great and show some fight,” Altmann said.

“All the stuff afterwards in the changerooms with the guys celebrating my 300 games was a bit embarrassing – they made quite a big deal of it.

“I didn’t think I’d play this many when I first started but I’m still going at 41 so there you go.

“It’s not really the rugby that keeps me around, though that’s always fun, it’s the club and the guys and the community we have here is special and means a lot to me.”

Altmann’s side face one of the state’s toughest road trips with third-placed Devonport welcoming Harlequins to Don Recreation Oval this weekend while Glenorchy and University also head up the Midlands to face Burnie and Launceston respectively.

Round 12’s sole Hobart fixture will take place at Hutchins War Memorial Oval with the Lions desperately needing an upset over Taroona to keep their mathematical top-four hopes alive.

The women’s sevens and men’s Championship fixtures will recommence on August 12.
