TRU Round 2 Women's & Juniors Wrap: Taroona start strong, U18 Bulls win thriller

Round 2 of the statewide women's and juniors competitions got underway in Hobart with two cracking women's contests at Rugby Park and UTAS Oval.

Taroona opened their 2024 campaign in flying form, downing Launceston 31-10 in Cornelian Bay with Emma Bray bagging two tries for the hosts.

Meg Richardson and Karryne Hurkmans also dotted down for Taroona while Tigers standout Claire Griffiths scored both the visitors' tries.

Across town, Round 1 winners UniQueens and Glenorchy went hammer and tongs UniQueens earning a hard-fought 29-24 win.

Does star Georgia Sproule continued her red-hot start to the season with two more tries alongside Lily Nielsen and Jess Triffit but UniQueens weren't to be denied with Em Pregnell, Lolohea Foki, Fiona Anderson, Camille Martin and Josie Mason scoring for the hosts.

Up north, Devonport clinched a 14-12 thriller over Taroona in their U18s clash at Don Recreation Ground.

Bulls goalkicker Shannon Townsend proved the difference as the Bulls and Penguins scored two tries apiece.

The U16s round of fixtures saw Hutchins post a thrilling 35-24 win over Stags while Launceston notched a 85-0 win over Taroona.
