Taroona and Launceston maintained their unbeaten status in the TRU Men’s competition but Glenorchy and Hobart Harlequins continue to press their title claims in 2024.

The Stags bounced back from Round 3’s 12-point loss to the Tigers with a stellar Round 4 showing in Sandy Bay, smashing University 68-7.

Veteran Glenorchy centre Michael Lovell and winger Mitieli Were scored two tries apiece as the students conceded 10 tries to one on home soil.

Across town at Rugby Park, Quins moved into the top four with a 45-17 win over Hobart Lions while a forfeit saw Taroona bank maximum points against Burnie.

Up the highway, Launceston 1 posted a handsome 65-5 win in their intra-club clash with Launceston 2 at Royal Park.

Neels Truter and Salisio Naisorotabua bagged doubles in the reigning premiers’ big win as Launceston 2 wound back the clock by donning the club’s original blue and yellow hooped jerseys.

Further north, Devonport backed up last week’s Coastal Clash victory with Thomas Curties (four tries) and Seth Rodriguez (three tries) running rampant in a 94-7 win against the travelling Eastern Suburbs.

Round 5’s upcoming clashes include a 2023 grand final rematch between Taroona and Launceston.

ROUND 5 TRU MEN’S FIXTURES - Saturday 25 May

Taroona v Launceston 1

Glenorchy v Eastern Suburbs

University v Devonport
