Everything you need to know ahead of the 2023 TRU AGM

The below information relates to the upcoming 2023 TRU AGM.

The Tasmanian Rugby Union 2023 Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 10am on Sunday 26th February at Rugby Park. 

The 2022 full report and financials will be presented by honorary secretary Trent Burke.

This will include a full wrap of the 2022 season and update from each club of their season.

Clubs have been invited to advise their club members accordingly and ensure club committee members are in attendance.

As part of the 2023 TRU AGM, the board are calling for nominations for the following positions:

  • President – 2 year term
  • Secretary - 1 year term
  • Treasurer – 2 year term
  • Director/ Board Member (x2) 2 year term

Nominations for the above positions are asked to please forward nominations to trent.burke@tas.rugby AND ebony.altimira@tas.rugby prior to COB Friday 24th February 2023.

Tasmanian Rugby Union would like to thank President Ebony Altimira, Honorary Secretary Trent Burke and Treasurer Robin Allardice for their service to Tasmanian Rugby Union as they vacate their positions at the 2023 AGM.

Voting rights will be as per the below Constitution excerpts. Email confirmation of all voting numbers will be provided in early February.

DELEGATES

32

(a) At a meeting of the Union, Affiliated Members shall be entitled to the following number of delegates:

  1. In this sub-paragraph “men’s” refers to “either Division one or Division two men’s competition”, “women’s” refers to “that years senior women’s competition”, “junior” refers to “any age group of that years junior competitions”.
  2. In this sub-paragraph “Competitions” refers to those that are sanctioned and coordinated by the Union, and exclude any participation Event(s) run by the Union or other parties, irrespective of the length of such Event
  3. Each Club shall be entitled to the following number of delegates: A Club which enters at least one playing team in each of the senior competitions for that year (men’s, women’s) and has 20 or more TRU registered junior players - three delegates. A Club which enters at least one playing team in both the senior competitions for that year (men’s, women’s) or has one senior team entered and has 20 or more TRU registered junior players - two delegates.

A Club which enters at least one playing team in one of the senior competitions for that year (men’s, women’s) or has 20 or more TRU registered junior players - one delegate.

Right to Attend and Vote

(a) Persons eligible to attend and vote at General Meeting shall be –

  1. The Life members of the Union;
  2. Delegates from Affiliated Members as provided for in paragraph 32 hereof (but subject to the provisions of paragraph 29(e) and paragraph 30 (g) hereof).
  3. Chair of Judicial Committee
  4. Head of Match Official / Referees Association
  5. In the event of a tied vote, the Chair of the Board of Management will have the deciding vote
