Launceston 1 are frontrunners for a third consecutive title after seeing off Taroona in Round 13 of the TRU men's competition.

Premiers in 2022 and 2023, the Tigers are favoured to complete their hat-trick this year following Saturday's 48-22 defeat of the Penguins at Royal Park.

Fullback Kyle Lombard continued his rich vein of form with a hat-trick in Launceston 1's seven-try haul while two yellow cards turned red for Taroona didn't help the visitors' cause.

The win secured yet another minor premiership for the Tigers, who will host either Hobart Harlequins or Glenorchy in an August 17 semi final, while Taroona have a chance to bounce back in this weekend's final round clash with Glenorchy.

The Stags have everything to play for after a 45-15 drubbing at the hands of Devonport and can secure their finals berth with a single bonus point against Taroona.

Meanwhile Quins will have to produce the season's biggest upset by toppling Launceston 1 and hope Taroona deny Glenorchy a bonus point this weekend to keep their year alive.

In the Championship, Launceston 2 bounced back from a shock loss to University by downing Burnie 39-24 at Royal Park.

The Tigers scored all seven of their tries in a 32-minute blitz either side of half time but couldn't stop the Emus from bagging a crucial bonus point as both teams hunt a home semi final.

Hobart Lions rounded out the weekend's results with a comfortable 33-11 win over Sandy Bay neighbours University.

The Lions ran in five tries to Uni's one with Zac Summerfield scoring a hat-trick to help secure his side's minor championship and a likely home semi final against Uni in a fortnight.
