University picked up their first win of the men's TRU season while Devonport and Glenorchy played out a one-point thriller up north in Round 7's highlight fixture.

Winless in their first six games of 2024, both Uni and Eastern Suburbs desperately needed a breakthrough win in Saturday's clash at North Warrane Oval.

The Roosters showed plenty of grit in veteran Kyle Fishman's 100th game for Easts but couldn't hold on at home with Uni centre Chris Snodgrass (two tries) spearheading a 41-15 win for the visitors.

Up north, Devonport's Reuben Heagney inspired the Bulls to a 36-35 win over high flyers Glenorchy in front of Wallabies legend Glen Ella at Don Recreation Oval.

Ella and Wallaroos veteran Shirley Russell were in Devonport as part of Rugby Australia's Gold Blooded Tour and were treated to an 11-try spectacle with Heagney and Glenorchy's Joshua Papera bagging doubles in a thrilling game.

The result sees Devonport tighten their grip on a top five berth and Premiership qualification.

Further west, Burnie bagged their third win of the year with a 51-17 home win over Launceston 2 to keep their Premiership hopes alive.

Back down south, Taroona standouts Oli Bird, Aron Lovell and James Holman touched down in a 29-3 derby win over Hobart Harlequins while Hobart Lions fought bravely but were ultimately outgunned by defending premiers Launceston 1.

Tigers centre Nete Francis (three tries) ran rampant with backline teammates Leone Vonoyauyau and Sailosi Vunidakua also posting doubles a 41-24 win.
