The Blue card concussion management protocol will be introduced to all Tasmanian Rugby competitions in 2018.

The move will allow referees to show players a blue card should they display signs of concussion on field, making the game safer for all involved.

The player will not be able to play again until they undergo a mandatory medical check in the days following the match in which they were Blue Carded, and have to observe strict return-to-play timelines before returning to play.

Blue Cards will also have to be recorded on the team sheet and reported in the RugbyLink competition management database.

Tasmanian rugby has run presentations for all clubs around the state to educate the rugby community on the seriousness of concussion, how to identify the signs and symptoms of concussion, and to answer any questions about the new protocol.
