Launceston, Hobart Lions and Taroona are early favourites for the upcoming TRU Senior Finals after sewing up top spot in their respective divisions.
In the Premiership, Launceston 1’s 54-18 smashing of Hobart Harlequins iced a perfect regular season while Taroona’s 26-22 win over Glenorchy means the Stags will travel north for a tough semi final against the Tigers this weekend.
In the Championship, Rickardt Daniell and Zac Summerfield combined to help post Lions’ fourth straight win in a 36-27 thriller over Launceston 2 before Burnie wrapped up second place with a 49-24 defeat of Eastern Suburbs.
In the women’s competition, Taroona’s 22-5 win over Glenorchy marked the Penguins’ eighth successive win and condemned Does to a third-place finish, meaning they’ll travel for this week’s semi final clash with UniQueens.
Tigers’ 43-5 defeat of Eastern Suburbs rounded out the women’s regular season with the northerners now rank outsiders to take down the unbeaten Penguins in semi final play.
Statewide juniors are also nearing their finals series with Bulls’ 17-8 win over Taroona ensuring a north-west presence in the U18 decider.
Finally, Hutchins and Eastern Stags are set to battle for the U16 minor premiership this weekend after bonus point wins over Tigers and Taroona respectively.
