Rugby AU set to upskill hundreds of Community Coaches

by Loryn Ettridge

One of Rugby Australia’s major strategic priorities for 2020 comes to fruition this week with a strong focus on elevating hundreds of Community Coaches across the country.

Following months of planning and development, Coaches across all age groups and formats in schools and clubs will now be able to tap into a bank of resources and opportunities.

Over 300 educational videos from junior to senior level coaching which align with the National Coaching Curriculum are now available for Community Coaches to access for free via the Rugby Australia website.

Rugby Australia has also developed a mentor system with our top 100 community educators who will attend regular conferences and then pass on their learnings to coaches in their respective States and Territories.

The first conference was held in Canberra in January which involved a range of sporting experts and organisations.

To celebrate this milestone, the code has today launched ‘National Coaching Week’ which will see a special workshop hosted in each State and Territory with respected experts over the next five days.

The first lot of sessions will kick off in Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT where hundreds of school and club Coaches will hear from a mix of Classic Wallabies, and Super Rugby and Western Force Rugby Coaches.

Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle said: ‘’We recognise that Coaches play a vital role in growing the game and providing a positive experience for our participants.

''To achieve this, our Coaches need a strong foundation of support and access to a network of people who can share their experiences.

‘’Through having these new resources and support networks set up we hope to not just upskill hundreds of Coaches Australia-wide but also welcome hundreds more over the next few months,’’ said Castle.

“This is a positive step forward for the game and complements the fantastic work being done by our State and Territory Unions in developing coaches throughout their local regions.
