Launceston and Taroona continue to set the pace after four rounds of TRU Men's action while Hobart Harlequins and Hobart Lions played out an epic Southern derby in Sandy Bay.

Defending premiers Launceston 1 emerged 32-0 victors over Launceston 2 in their Royal Park rumble with state representative Kyle Lombard running in three tries from flyhalf.

Taroona playmaker Noah Kazarine was equally influential in the Penguins’ 38-18 away win over Burnie with his two tries and four conversions ultimately the difference at Emu Park.

Down south, Devonport’s fast start to 2025 continued with winger Jake McDermott spearheading a 39-18 victory at North Warrane Oval.

McDermott bagged two of the Bulls’ seven tries against Eastern Suburbs with Caiden Bryan and Matthew Sproule the Roosters' sole scorers.

Round 4 of TRU Men's came to a thrilling conclusion at UTAS Oval with third-placed Harlequins seeing off a spirited Lions outfit on the final play to emerge 31-27 victors.

Both sides crossed for five tries in a see-sawing encounter with Mackay Cullen’s 73rd minute try and conversion proving the matchwinner.

Lions fought their way back upfield in the dying minutes after a red card against Toutai Havea but the undermanned Harlequins held on late, forcing an error just five metres from their own try line to seal a four-point victory.

Meanwhile the Tigers and Penguins’ good fortunes continued in the TasNetworks Women’s competition with both sides picking up important wins on the road.

Launceston’s Juliette Waeber and Eastern Suburb’s Mia Mason crossed for hat-tricks in the Tigers’ 43-27 win at North Warrane Oval before Emma Pritchard’s double helped Taroona grind out a 36-26 win over Burnie.

The state-wide junior boys action also produced strong showings with Penguin Josaiah Naufahu scoring five tries in Taroona U16’s 98-14 win over Bulls U16.

Elsewhere, Joshua Tonge’s 16-point haul lifted Hutchins U18 to a 36-19 win over Tigers U18 while Bulls U18 avenged their U16s counterparts, scoring eight tries to three in a 50-17 win over Taroona U18.
